Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Relief from monthly symptoms through balance and support

What is PMS?

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) refers to the collection of physical and emotional symptoms that occur in the days or weeks leading up to menstruation. While many women experience mild discomfort, for some these symptoms can be severe and disruptive to daily life.

Common symptoms include:

    • Mood swings, irritability, or anxiety
    • Bloating and fluid retention
    • Breast tenderness
    • Headaches or migraines
    • Fatigue and sleep disturbances
    • Food cravings or appetite changes
    • Cramps or body aches

PMDD: When PMS Becomes More Severe

For a smaller percentage of women, premenstrual symptoms are far more intense, a condition known as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). PMDD includes all the symptoms of PMS but with more severe mood changes, such as:

  • Intense irritability or anger
  • Severe anxiety or panic
  • Depressed mood or hopelessness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Significant impact on relationships, work, or daily function

While PMS and PMDD share hormonal roots, PMDD is considered a more serious condition that deserves extra care and support.

How PMS & PMDD Affect Fertility & Wellbeing

PMS itself does not directly cause infertility, but the hormonal imbalances that contribute to PMS and PMDD – such as luteal phase irregularities or cycle disruptions – can overlap with fertility challenges.

Beyond hormones, the emotional toll of PMS and especially PMDD can impact intimacy, energy, and overall resilience during the fertility journey.

How Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Help

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, PMS and PMDD often arise from Qi and Blood disharmony, stress-related stagnation, or underlying deficiencies.

The Yinstill Fertility Method™ uses acupuncture and integrative care to:

  • Regulate cycles and balance reproductive hormones
  • Relieve cramps, bloating, and breast tenderness
  • Calm the nervous system and reduce anxiety or irritability
  • Improve mood stability and sleep quality
  • Support emotional resilience throughout the premenstrual phase

Many women notice not only a reduction in PMS/PMDD symptoms but also improvements in overall wellbeing and menstrual health.

Closing Reassurance
