It was so convenient to have the procedure done on site and i couldn’t get over how relaxed i was coming out of my appointment. I was more nervous about the accupuncture then the IVF transfer but once i got in and talked to Dr. Pentland all my fears were resolved and i could have just fallen asleep right there in the office! I would highly recommend the IVF day of transfer procedure, and found it to be a crucial part in the success of my very first IVF attempt! Thanks Dr Pentland for being a part of our journey!
When I first heard about a new acupuncture service on site at PCRM, I was so glad because of a convenience. I had a really great relaxing experience on the day of embryo transfer. In my opinion, it is very important to be comfortable on this day of treatment. I was surprised of the calm environment: warm bed and blanket, pleasant scent of essential oils and relaxing meditation.
Many thanks to Dr. Spence Pentland.
I want to thank you so much for all your care and attention to my treatment, I know it has made a big difference, and in particular in the last few months, you are truly gifted in knowing what people need, and helping them see that. I am very excited to have had such a great response during this last transfer, as well, so is my Doctor, and he is confident we are on the right track and would like to continue. We have a number of things to consider and will take some time to mull everything over and get ready to take on our next challenges.
You have made such a difference to how I view my personal health and well being, and your well chosen words are still circling around in my head daily, I will be eternally grateful to you for that. Also, you are the only accupuncturist that I have found that doesn’t hurt. So I consider myself very lucky to have found you! I am hopeful I will find a clear answer on to how to proceed. I appreciate Spence and how he has helped me to get to this point in my journey.
I will keep you update on any new developments.
My husband (age 38) and I (age 36) tried to get pregnant for one year – which isn’t that long, really, but when you want something badly, any amount of time can be frustrating. I know firsthand how much it sucks to get your period and then wait another month and so on…
We tried everything from BBT, going broke from ovulation kits, very unsexy timed sex…you name it. I heard about Spence in April 2009 after realizing that my stressful job combined with a tendency to pick up every bug that was going around (was just getting over bronchitis) was not helping us reach our goals. After a year, our infertility was unexplained, and after having two of my best friends resort to multiple rounds of IVF after years of trying, I didn’t want to waste any time. We have always wanted to be parents – more than anything in the world.
I went to see Spence and immediately was told I needed to change my diet and tone down the active lifestyle. I replaced boot camp with yoga. I went weekly for three months. Spence put me on a 3 week cleanse and during and after – as hard as it was at first – I’ve never felt better in my life. As much as I love my job, I tried to give it some balance.
After two months of changing my diet and exercise routines, lowering my stress level – combined with positive thinking – I decided to be proactive and go back to PCRM (where we had conducted our tests) to try an IUI in order to maximize our chances. We agreed to try a few cycles and then assess from there. Coupled with Clomid, I went for my first IUI (AKA turkey baster) in early June, and towards the end of the month (refraining from obsessing and spending too much $$ on home pregnancy tests) I got a very exciting phone call that my blood test was positive and that I was due in March!
I was shocked but so excited… and I was proud of the work I put into improving my health and general well being – it was more than worth it.
We had our first ultrasound last week…and…two heartbeats! Again, an absolute shock but definite joy. Twins were the last thing we were expecting, but we’ve gone through a lot to get to this point – both as individuals and as a couple – more than what I can write in this entry.
Anyway, I hope our story gives you hope… If I can give any advice – keep positive, try not to obsess, educate yourself, and be proactive! Obviously I highly recommend Acubalance – it’s a supportive, healthy and wonderful place with great staff and worth the investment of time and money. No matter what happens…you’ll feel empowered and healthier than ever.
Good luck to everyone!
My husband and I started trying to conceive in January of 2006. Because of my having PCOS, we had already seen an infertility specialist at Genesis. I wasn’t ovulating as I hadn’t had a natural period in over a decade. My doctor started me on clomid right away. After about six months of trying and having no success, I heard of acupuncture through a friend. I decided to give it a try and met with Spence. Aside from receiving the acupuncture treatments, it was really nice to be able to discuss my infertility frustrations with someone so knowledgeable. After a month or two, my husband also started coming to see Spence. In September, I had my ninth cycle of clomid with no luck. We decided to take a break from the clomid. One month later, I had my first natural period in ages, and was ovulating on my own. By December, our doctor told us that we probably wouldn’t be able to conceive without the help of in vitro. We made our appointment for the orientation for January. But, we proved the doctor wrong. Our late Christmas present that year was finding out on New Year’s Eve day that I was pregnant. I really attribute our success to Spence and acupuncture.
After two early miscarriages and almost two years of trying for a successful pregnancy with no identifiable reason for our troubles, we decided to look into IVF and happened to come across the website for Spence. I decided to try acupuncture and herbal teas as way of preparing for IVF. I enjoyed my weekly treatments, in part for the opportunity to simply relax and take some time for myself. After all the frustration and disappointment of the previous two years, it was nice to have hope again and a sense of well being from taking care of myself.
We were thrilled when after three months of treatments with Spence, I became pregnant without ever beginning IVF treatments. I firmly believe that my acupuncture treatments are the primary reason for our success. I continued treatments with Spence during my pregnancy and happily have had a normal, uneventful pregnancy. I am now just a few weeks away from delivering our first child. We are so grateful to Spence for helping make our wishes come true.
I worked with Harris through the whole pregnancy cycle: conception through post-partum.
I first sought treatment with Harris after a couple years of trying to conceive. At my first appointment Harris began to share his wealth of knowledge about conception and I received my first acupuncture treatment. After just a few sessions, I learned I was pregnant. We were thrilled.
Near the end of my pregnancy I returned to Harris to prepare my body for childbirth. I worked with him to open up my pelvis, promote optimal positioning of the baby, and provide gentle stimulation to aid the birthing process as I progressed. He also taught my husband and I acupressure points to use at home, both before and during birth. I felt great and my body felt so ready to birth our child! Our baby was in the perfect position and very low down in my pelvis.
When my birthing time came we had a wonderful water birth at home, but I haemorrhaged after. I started to suffer from insomnia and what felt like heart palpitations and incredible pressure surges when I tried to sleep. I felt awful and was no longer able to enjoy the first days with my son. I sought help from Harris again and he was able to diagnosis the problem – my body was having trouble coping with the blood loss. Harris was able to help aid my blood regeneration. I saw the results right away was able to sleep again hours later. Harris saved the day and I was once again able to enjoy those precious first days with my son. I was so happy to feel good again!
We are incredibly grateful to Harris for his compassion and his expertise in the field of reproductive health. He is a true asset to the birthing community.
I can’t say enough about how great it was to be able to have my transfer day acupuncture completed on site at PCRM. The environment created was so soothing that I was really able to relax and clear my head. I loved having the scented eye mask and listening to relaxing music with headphones to block out any noise. It was an added benefit that I was able to send Spence a quick e-mail when I was given my transfer date and I didn’t have to worry about booking additional appointments. It was a wonderful experience and I would recommend this to anyone going through IVF. I only wish I had a comparable Acupuncturist in in my home city!
Dear Natalie Woodhouse,
I want to say thank you with all my heart for the Jin Chin Do treatment you gave me. I was suffering from extreme dizziness and unusual fatigue and weakness due to side effect of antibiotics, for about three weeks. Before I came for the treatment that you suggested I was functioning at 50% (which is not good at all). After one hour treatment from you, within half an hour that same evening, I felt different (meaning I was functioning at 95% somewhat normally and able to take care of my grandson and play with him). What you did for me was miraculous, just two treatments and I am at 100%. I also want to say that every time I have come in for a massage treatment, I have walked out healed. Thank you so much Natalie Woodhouse. I highly recommend your services. You truly have angel hands. May your spirit touch everyone. Thank you.
It is 2 days less the year that you were giving me my final accupuncture treatments that resulted in my miracle boy. Jesse was born August 18th and I am sure the accupuncture made a huge difference to this success. He is the light of our lives and we love him more than we could have ever imagined.
We will be in touch soon as are hoping to give Jesse a brother or sister in May or June.
Happy holidays and we can never repay you for the kindness and support that gave us the best gift in the entire world.
I went to Yinstill and saw Junko weekly in an effort to regulate my hormones and cycles when my husband and I were trying to conceive. Her warm and professional demeanour made me feel comfortable from the start (important as I had never been to acupuncture before) and it was relieving to have someone to talk to along our fertility journey. Very quickly my cycles became more regular and within a few months I was pregnant! I continued seeing Junko for the first twelve weeks of my pregnancy and returned to see her at the end – even receiving a treatment as I was in early labour. I truly believe that this last treatment helped me have such a smooth and fast delivery. My husband saw her for a while as well and we both cannot recommend Junko enough!
The front desk staff was always very warm and welcoming and the ambience of the studio itself is very calming. From the moment you walk in off of the hustle and bustle of Main Street you feel at peace, relaxed, and in good hands. Thank you for listening to our concerns Yinstill when Western medicine wouldn’t discuss our fertility until we had hit the one year mark without success!
