In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

Working together to optimize outcomes and reduce stress

What is IVF?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a process where eggs are retrieved from the ovaries, fertilized with sperm in a laboratory, and then transferred back into the uterus as embryos.

The typical IVF journey involves several steps:

  • Preparation: Medications to regulate hormones.
  • Stimulation: Daily injections to help multiple eggs grow.
  • Monitoring: Blood tests and ultrasounds to track follicle development.
  • Egg Retrieval: Eggs are collected under light sedation.
  • Fertilization & Embryo Growth: Eggs are fertilized and grown in the lab for several days.
  • Embryo Transfer: A fresh or frozen embryo is placed into the uterus.
  • Two-Week Wait: Luteal support and pregnancy testing.

While IVF offers hope, it can also be an emotionally and physically demanding process. This is where acupuncture can play a supportive role.

How Acupuncture Supports IVF

Research shows that acupuncture may help optimize outcomes when provided consistently before and during the IVF process. Timing and frequency matter: multiple treatments across the cycle – especially leading up to and on the day of embryo transfer – are associated with better outcomes.

Acupuncture can support IVF by:

    • Improving blood flow to the ovaries and uterus
    • Supporting egg and uterine lining health
    • Reducing stress and calming the nervous system
    • Minimizing medication side effects such as bloating or mood swings
    • Creating a calmer, more receptive environment on embryo transfer day
    • Supporting implantation and reducing anxiety during the two-week wait

A Supportive, Integrative Approach

At Yinstill, our role is to complement your medical care and help you feel supported throughout the IVF journey. We align your acupuncture treatments with your IVF timeline so that your body, mind, and emotions are cared for every step of the way.

    • Before stimulation: prepare and balance the body for medications
    • During stimulation: support ovarian response and lining development
    • After egg retrieval: aid recovery and reduce inflammation
    • On embryo transfer day: provide calm, focused treatments before and after transfer
    • During the two-week wait: support implantation and manage stress or anxiety

Closing Reassurance

IVF can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Acupuncture offers a gentle, evidence-informed way to support your body and mind during one of the most important journeys of your life.
