Dr. Spence Pentland

Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Dr. TCM)
Founder of & Clinical Director of Yinstill Reproductive Wellness

For more than twenty years, Dr. Spence Pentland has devoted his clinical life to one of the most emotionally complex and meaningful experiences a person can face: the journey toward creating a family.

Since 2004, he has worked closely with women and couples navigating fertility challenges, witnessing firsthand how deeply infertility touches identity, relationships, and hope. Through this lens, Dr. Pentland developed not only a profound understanding of reproductive physiology, but a deep respect for the human nervous system, emotional resilience, and the conditions required for the body to thrive.

He is the founder of Yinstill Reproductive Wellness and the creator of the Yinstill Fertility Method – a structured, integrative approach to fertility care designed to replace confusion and overwhelm with clarity, support, and direction. His work bridges evidence-informed acupuncture, Chinese medicine, lifestyle strategy, and close collaboration with fertility clinics and medical teams

For more than two decades, Dr. Pentland has worked in close collaboration with all major fertility clinics in the region, including Pacific Centre for Reproductive Medicine, Grace Fertility, and Genesis Fertility Centre. This depth of collaboration has refined his clinical precision and given him a clear, practical understanding of how to support patients effectively alongside modern reproductive medicine.

Dr. Pentland has also contributed to academic research in the field. Alongside Dr. Jeffrey Roberts and Dr. Christine Sutton of University of British Columbia, he co-authored research published in Fertility and Sterility examining the stress-reducing effects of acupuncture in the weeks leading up to IVF embryo transfer — reinforcing the critical role of nervous system regulation in reproductive outcomes.

In 2015, he authored Being Fertile, written to offer hope, understanding, and practical guidance to individuals and couples experiencing difficulty starting or expanding their families. The book reflects a core belief that continues to guide his clinical work today: nothing is broken – the body needs the right conditions to feel safe, supported, and capable of conception.

Dr. Pentland is an active member of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and previously served as President of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of British Columbia as well as on the provincial Quality Assurance Committee. He remains deeply committed to education, collaboration, and the thoughtful integration of Chinese medicine into modern reproductive care.

Patients often describe Dr. Pentland’s presence as calm, steady, and grounding. His approach is neither rushed nor alarmist. Instead, he focuses on helping patients feel oriented, informed, and supported – replacing fear with understanding, and uncertainty with a clear path forward.

Outside the clinic, Spence is a husband to his wife Chantal and a father to three sons. His work is anchored in a simple truth: family is everything. It is this belief that continues to guide his mission – to optimize health, support fertility, build resilient families, and contribute to a healthier, more fertile world.
