Advanced Maternal Age & Egg Quality

Understanding your fertility journey with compassion and clarity

What is “Advanced Maternal Age”?

Doctors often use the term Advanced Maternal Age (AMA) to describe pregnancy at age 35 or older. While this number can feel intimidating, it’s important to remember that many women still conceive and have healthy pregnancies after 35.

Egg quality naturally changes over time. As women age, eggs may lose some of their energy and genetic stability, which can make conception more challenging or increase the chance of miscarriage. This is a normal biological process, not something you caused or did wrong.

How Age Affects Fertility

  • Fertility declines gradually after age 30 and more noticeably after 35.
  • By age 40, chances of pregnancy per cycle are lower, and miscarriage risk is higher.
  • This is linked to changes in egg quality, which affect fertilization, embryo development, and implantation.

While these facts can feel discouraging, they don’t tell the whole story. Every woman’s fertility journey is unique, and many factors beyond age play a role.

A Supportive, Integrative Approach

At Yinstill, we understand that women facing AMA often feel pressure, urgency, or grief. Our role is to create a safe and compassionate space while supporting your fertility potential in every way possible.

The Yinstill Fertility Method™ uses acupuncture, lifestyle guidance, and integrative care to help:

    • Support healthy blood flow to the ovaries and uterus
    • Regulate hormones and menstrual cycles
    • Reduce stress and cortisol levels
    • Encourage restorative sleep and energy balance
    • Create optimal conditions for IVF or other assisted reproductive treatments

How We Work Alongside Conventional Care

If you are exploring IVF, IUI, or egg freezing, acupuncture can be a complementary therapy to support your body and mind through the process. It is recommended to begin acupuncture treatment 6-12 weeks before an IVF cycle to prepare the body and reduce stress.

We also encourage open communication with your medical team, and we integrate our care with any treatments you may be pursuing.

Partner Health Matters Too

While age impacts the female partner’s egg quality, sperm health is not immune to time, and also plays a critical role in embryo success. Supporting your partner’s well-being is an important part of the fertility journey.

Closing Reassurance

If you’re navigating the emotions and uncertainties of fertility after 35, you are not alone. With compassion, evidence-informed care, and integrative support, we are here to walk alongside you every step of the way.
